very little. shintoism altho the main religion – its very personal and private. it has little influence on japanese politics. the pivot in politics is survival of the nation – pride – loyalty to emperor – competing with the rest of the world to be the best – these r the driving force of japanese society.
at the back of all these is the foundation that shintoism has laid for each japanese since their childhood.
being a monolithic society – their sense of nationhood is tremendous.
but with modernization, excesses of growth – this is also eroding and economic stagnation is happening. prices are going down and things r surprisingly getting cheaper. thisis their quandary. again shintoism doesnt play a direct role in all these….
