Comic Headlines Comedy Benefit for Benicia Vallejo Humane Society

Benicia, CA (PRWEB) August 21, 2007 -- LaPorte, formerly of Chicago and now living in Southern California, recently finished No. 2 in the United States in an online vote to find "America's Best Comic" on Comedy Central.

The former Chicago truck driver, dock worker and amateur boxer started his standup career in Chicago back in 1988.

"My boxing career lasted about 10 seconds, "LaPorte said. "But it was a great 10 seconds. I think because of my name. When you're name is 'Rocky,' everyone thinks you'll be a fighter. But, it's worked out. Usually, I only have to fight hecklers. And I can usually take them in four or five round, especially the old ladies."

At the Las Vegas Comedy Festival in 2004, LaPorte was named "Best Male Comedian of the Year" in a poll of 40 comedy club owners nationwide. He was also the winner of the Johnnie Walker National Comedy Competition, beating 1,100 contestants.

LaPorte's TV credits include a guest spot on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and he played a police officer in Tim Allen's remake of "The Shaggy Dog."

LaPorte has also entertained the troops in Iraq, visiting Bagdad two years ago with Drew Carey.

Tickets for the Benicia/Vallejo Humane Society event are $20 and on sale online at www.RedDragonflyProductions.com. Call 707.771.0140 for information.
