    Martin Luther King got shot. Bobby Kennedy got shot. The 1968 Democratic convention was a fiasco. Vietnam was no picnic. LBJ barely bothered to run for reelection before throwing in the towel.

    If JFK’s assassination didn’t end America’s innocence, the events of 1968 certainly put the nail in the coffin.
