No Picture asked:

Do you think that we, as humans, can ever bring about ‘world peace’? By ‘world peace’ I mean no wars as well as peace in our personal relationships. There will always be conflicts arising, but do you think that we will ever learn to nip them in the bud and avoid resorting to violence almost all of the time?

Out of interest and to make it different from other questions on this theme, after your answer could you say if you consider yourself religous or not. That is, if it’s not apparent in your answer itself.

Nicholas C asked:

Children grow up with action figures with swordd or guns etc.
Magazines with BANG of a bomb and fighting. The world is full of swearing. Even the religious world is not helping world peace by having enemies (Satan, or even other religions).
Its no wonder children grow up wanting to join the army.
Yet WHY are so many people wanting world peace, whenj by joining social acts like, even reading, they are being hipocritical to their statements?

Does happiness interfere with world peace?

May 18th, 2009 by Admin | 5 Comments | Filed in Philosophy

guru asked:

Considering a ‘pursuit of happiness’ we can generally describe this as ‘doing as we want’ or ‘doing what makes us happy’. If doing what we want includes doing war against another, then the pursuit of happiness in counter productive to the goal of world peace.

If waring with a neighbour makes us happy, if waring with another religion makes us happy, if waring with a conflicting political system makes us happy then, the pursuit of happiness ends world peace.

Is happiness counterproductive to world peace?
LJK…I disagree. The foot soldier who straps explosives to himself may be afraid, but isn’t he happy to go to heaven and kill off his mortal enemies. It is through his happiness that violence occurs.

Isn’t the foot solder who lines up the enemy in his sights happy to know that he is killing off his mortal enemy who will no longer harm him or his kind.

world peace?

Blake???? asked:

I have to write a speech on world peace in the ” i have a dream” style. i need some ideas it has to be 150-200

this is what i have so far. anything would help.

I have a dream that one day we could live in a world without fear of war. I have a dream that one day we could live in peace and harmony. We are all humans and most of us want similar things in life but in our world today we face a problem of violence. I don’t understand why people fight. The only thing that comes from fighting is pain. Pain isn’t worth fighting for.
